Welcome to Tech Talk. Short and to the point, our monthly articles aim to keep the average cyclist informed on how to keep their bikes running smoothly, longer.
Tyre Pressures
Do you realise that in a car, motor bike, duel suspension bike or rigid bike that your most efficient suspension comes from your tyres.
For road riders who have a second set of wheels to train on, try a set of 700x25c tyres run at minimal pressure. If you don't race or only have one set of tyres, run those at minimum, not maximum pressures when you train, you will have a much more comfortable ride.
Pressure freaks that buy the highest pressure rating tyre they can get should be aware that too high a pressure for a particular body weight can cause the tyre to bounce, causing wheel spin and loss of traction. You never know, your last 100k ride may actually have been 110k.
Remember tyre manufacturers design tyres to run at paticular pressures so that they stay in contact with the black stuff and give maximum traction at all times.
Adjust your pressure according to body weight and remember to let a little bit of air out on wet days.
